Meet The Team
Our five veterinary surgeons are supported by a team of trained and qualified veterinary nurses.
We are committed to continual training for all our clinical staff, as we believe this ensures a highly motivated team and up to date knowledge.
Justin Yates MA, VetMB, CertVR, MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon
Justin qualified from Cambridge Veterinary School in 1992. He joined Hawthorne Lodge Veterinary Surgery in 1999, and became a partner three years later. His main professional interests lie in medical imaging and internal medicine. He holds the RCVS certificate in radiology, and is currently studying for the certificate in small animal medicine.
David Bemrose, BVM&S, GPCertSAM, MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon
David graduated from Edinburgh Veterinary School in 1996 and joined Hawthorne Lodge Veterinary Surgery in 2007. He obtained the GP certificate in small animal medicine in 2006, and is currently registered for the GP certificate in ophthalmology.
Will Oldham, BVM&S, MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon
Will qualified from Edinburgh in 2008. After working in Sussex for two years, he spent six months locuming, before joining Hawthorne Lodge in December, 2010. Will is interested in all aspects of small animal practice, but with a particular focus on soft tissue surgery. He is currently registered for the RCVS certificate in advanced veterinary practice.
Andrea Holmes, BSc BVSc MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon
Andrea joined the practice in July 2011, after completing a zoology degree and then a veterinary degree at Bristol University. She is interested in all aspects of small animal veterinary practice. Outside of work, she is a keen sportswoman having played netball and basketball at both county and national levels.
Cristina Perez, MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon
Cristina graduated in Zaragosa, Spain in 2007. Since 2009 she has worked in various small animal practices in the South East of England. During this time she was responsible for the animals in several of Oxfordshire's "Pets at Home" stores, and developed a particular interest in the medicine and surgery of childrens pets. She joined Hawthorne Lodge in August, 2011.
Peter Abbott, MA, VetMB, MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon
Peter graduated from Cambridge University. After working in a mixed practice in Somerset he joined Hawthorne Lodge in 1972 and was a partner from 1974 to 2004. He now provides locum cover when vets are away.
Michael Whatman, BVSc, MRCVS
Veterinary Surgeon
Mike graduated in New Zealand in 1978. After working for several years in New Zealand, he moved to the UK and started working for Hawthorne Lodge in 1991, initially as a locum and then as an assistant. He was a partner in the practice from 1996 to 2007. Since retiring from the partnership, he has been providing locum cover for vets on holiday.
Steina Jenkins, RVN
Head Veterinary Nurse
Steina qualified as a veterinary nurse in 1983 and joined the practice in 1984. After a prolonged break during which she ran her own dog grooming business as well as bringing up her three children, she rejoined the practice in 2003. She was appointed head nurse in 2004. Her main interest is in dog behaviour, and she is also registered as an assessor for nurse training.
Amanda Tudhope, RVN
Veterinary Nurse
Amanda qualified as a veterinary nurse from Berkshire College of Agriculture in 1994. She joined Hawthorne Lodge in 1999. She has a City and Guilds Certificate in Small Animal Nutrition, and also has an interest in exotic and wildlife nursing.
Nicola Brunwin, RVN
Veterinary Nurse
Nicola starting working for the practice as a receptionist in 2006, but joined our nursing team the following year. She qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2009. She has previously run her own dog grooming business. Her pets include three Bulldogs, two cats and four rabbits, as well as several guinea pigs and gerbils.
Emma Giles, RVN
Veterinary Nurse
Emma joined the practice in 2010. Previously she worked at several first opinion and specialist referral practices around the UK, having qualified in 2002. She is particularly interested in anaesthesia and in-patient care. She has two dogs - a deerhound called Jake and a greyhound called Smudge.
Nicola Osborne VN
Veterinary Nurse
Nicola joined the practice as a receptionist in 2008, and registered on the veterinary nursing course at Moreton Morrell in 2009. She passed her final nursing exams in 2011. She has previous experience working in the retail industry with Debenhams and Clinton Cards. Nicola has four cats.
Debbie
Pharmacy Manager / Nursing Assistant
Debbie joined the practice as a nursing assistant in 1996. In addition to nursing, she currently manages the practice pharmacy. She also has an interest in pet bereavement counselling. She enjoys riding and walking her two dogs.
Emma
Head Receptionist
Emma is our head receptionist. She started working for the practice in 2003. Away from work, she spends time cycling and walking her four dogs – including Great Dane Dexter.
Netta
Receptionist
Netta started working for the practice in 1990 as a nursing assistant. After a three year break to look after her children, she rejoined the practice in 2007 as a part time receptionist.
Pam
Receptionist
Pam joined the practice in 2009 when she moved to Banbury, after working for 7 years as an Administrator for Newsquest. Pam has two chickens and four cats, one of which she has hand-reared, bottle feeding her from one day old.
Maria
Student Veterinary Nurse
Maria joined the practice October 2009. She is currently studying for a four year degree course in Veterinary Nursing at Moreton Morrell. In her spare time she looks after her six cats and two children.
Sophia
Student veterinary nurse
Sophia joined the practice as in September 2009 as a receptionist and nursing assistant. In 2011 she enrolled in the veterinary nursing diploma at Moreton Morrell. Previously she has been involved in the care and nursing of wild animals ranging from hedgehogs with Tiggywinkles in the UK, to lions and cheetahs in South Africa.
